You can set up fax, telex, and data communications from terminals (those can be used for international communications) in Japan to the following Inmarsat terminals.

Some services may not be available depending on the functions of individual Inmarsat terminal.

To reach Inmarsat-A, Inmarsat-B, Inmarsat-M, and to Inmarsat-Mini-M mobile terminals from your data terminals, you need to connect a modem to your telephone circuit. To reach Inmarsat-B-HSD, Inmarsat-Fleet -HSD and Inmarsat-M4-HSD mobile terminals from your data terminal, you need to connect with your ISDN interface.

You can communicate with an Inmarsat-C terminal from a data terminal by connecting a modem to you telephone circuit. In this case you need to subscribe to KDDI's VENUS-P (International public data communications service).

Usage

From Telephone and Fax
The procedure for reaching an Inmarsat terminal from a telephone or fax terminal is as follows:

1.  Dial "001-010".
2.  Dial an Ocean Region Code for telephone.
3.  Dial a Ship ID.

To send a fax message to an Inmarsat-A terminal (Ship ID starts with "1"), insert "81" between Ocean Region Code and Ship ID.

"Auto-Routing" functionality now enables users to have communications automatically routed to any ocean region by simply selecting the Universal Ocean Region Code "870" and determine the ocean region where the destination terminal is located.

This function is unavailable for communication to Inmarsat-A mobile terminal.

From Telex
The procedure for sending a message to an Inmarsat terminal from a telex terminal is as follows:

1.  Call KDDI Telex Exchange.
2.  Type-in an Ocean Region Code for telex, a Ship ID, and "+" in succession.
3.  Send a message.

From Data Communications Terminal
The procedure for setting up data communications to INMARSAT-A, INMARSAT-B, INMARSAT-M or INMARSAT-Mini-M, INMARSAT-B-HSD, Inmarsat-Fleet -HSD or INMARSAT-M4-HSD terminals from a data communications terminal is the same as that for telephone or fax communications. Set up address numbers using a communication software.

1.  Dial "010".

"If you haven't registered for MYLINE or MYLINE PLUS" or "If you use cellular phone, PHS and other mobile phones, or public phones", dial "001-010".

2.  Dial an Ocean Region Code for telephone.
3.  Dial a Ship ID.

To transmit data to INMARSAT-A equipment (Ship ID starts with "1"), insert "81" between Ocean Region Code and Ship ID.

Receipt Notice for Inmarsat-C costs you 30 yen (31.5yen (tax included)) per message. No fee is charged for non-Receipt Notice from KDDI.
The charge for three minutes automatic telex call is applicable to an operator-assisted call up to three minutes. The charge after three minutes is the same as automatic calls.
To use the service from a data communications terminal, you need to subscribe to KDDI's VENUS-P.
By registering the use of Inmarsat, you can enjoy an economical charge in units of 256 bits. The registration for Inmarsat-C costs you a one-time fee of 2,000 yen (2,100yen (tax included)) and a yearly basic fee of 4,000 yen (4,200yen (tax included)).
You can transmit 64 alphanumeric characters per segment. At each line feed one segment is added.
You can transmit 32 alphanumeric characters with 256 bits.

Customers who have registered the use of INMARSAT-C are not required to pay the costs associated with the registration of use (Fee for User Name Registration and Fee for Registered User Name Administration).
A DNID (Data Reporting and Polling Closed Network ID) will be set up for each fleet using polling and data reporting, and an ENID (Enhanced Network ID) for each fleet using Fleet- Net.
You can carry out polling with a message (text) accompanied. When a message is sent with polling, the per-256-bit charge is applicable depending on the amount of text. You can send 32 alphanumeric characters per 256 bits.
You can send up to three packets or 32 bytes (32 alphanumeric characters) in a single communication. In a single communication, the first packet accommodates eight bytes (eight alphanumeric characters), and the second and third packet each 12 bytes (12 alphanumeric characters).
File searching is available only for land-based contractors. You can carry out file searching for ordinary messages sent from ships to DNIDs via INMARSAT-C, besides for messages sent with data reporting.
With polling and Fleet-Net only, receipt notice and communication reference report can be searched for from land-based contractors. A message for receipt notice will be sent out even if delivery to all the destination is not confirmed. Delivery to all ships in a fleet cannot be confirmed. In addition, receipt notice and communication reference report cannot be searched for with respect to data reporting.
