Outline
Using a compact Inmarsat-M4 terminal, subscribers of Inmarsat-M4 (Multi Media Mini M) Service can connect with an ISDN line user or another Inmarsat-M4 terminal at 64kbps (that is approx. 27 times the speed of standard Mini-M system). Equipped with this terminal and service, the user can take advantage of comfortable and fast 64kbps data communications in locations where neither telecommunications infrastructure nor access to an ISDN circuit is available.

Not only Internet access but also a variety of multimedia applications ranging from transmission/reception of digital still and video images to videoconferencing and telemedicine are possible with this service.

Also users can take advantage of multimedia connectivity (standard function of Inmarsat-Fleet terminals) to use Internet Packet Data Service.

Inmarsat-M4 terminals are available for sale or rental from KDDI Network & Solutions Inc. - A member company of KDDI Group.

Example, Digital Still and Video Image Transmission
With Inmarsat-M4, digital still photos or digital video can be shot in areas where no telecommunications infrastructure exists, and then be transmitted directly from the field. Just connect your camera, personal computer and M4 equipment and enjoy the capability to transmit image data at the high speed of 64kbps. In the case of sending video, more effective transmission can be achieved by using the Inmarsat-M4 terminal together with the VIDEOtrek system developed by KDDI Technology Corporation.
