Outline
The SatMail-C Service is a practical and economical communications service for sending E-mail between Inmarsat-C facilities and land.

Using the SatMail-C Service is easy and handy since E-mail can be sent and received as over the normal Internet. It allows people on both vessels and on land to read their E-mail when it is most convenient.

Figure: SatMail-C

Features
The terrestrial Internet network and Inmarsat-C facilities enable transfer of E-mail between Inmarsat-C facilities.
It is possible to include more than one mail address by combining "To:" "Cc:" and "Bcc:" when making a transmission.
A delivery report or a non-delivery report is returned for each transmission.
The maximum size of the message that can be sent at a time is about 32 kilobytes, including the recipient address. (Depending on the Inmarsat-C facility, this may be limited to 8 kilobytes in some cases.)

Usage

To Use SatMail-C
To use the service a ship site requires Inmarsat-C facilities, and a land site requires a peripheral terminal (such as a personal computer) that supports connection to the Internet.
Before a land-based user can use the SatMail-C service, it is necessary to first make a User registration or Address registration.

User registration
Each registered customer is provided with a user ID and a password. The customer is able to use SatMail-C from any Internet terminal in the world using his or her user ID and password. The communication charge is invoiced to the user-registered customer.
Address registration
Because SatMail-C identifies the sender's domain name (mail address), a customer does not need to enter the user ID or the password. The communication charge is invoiced to the Address-registered customer.

Registrations are not required for Inmarsat-C facilities on board vessels. Transmissions from vessels can be made right away.

Transmission Method
To send from land, the recipient should be specified as "Inmarsat-C ship ID number" (9 digits starting with "4") followed by @satmailc.com.

Inmarsat-C ship ID: 444101234
