Basic Services

The operating system can be selected from the following three types:
Turbolinux Appliance Server Hosting Edition
Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES
Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition SP1
A highly reliable and advanced blade server[1] is used as the hardware.
The standard network connected to the server is "Max 10 Mbps best-effort type (512 Kbps dedicated bandwidth)". However, customers can also select "Max 30 Mbps best-effort type (1 Mbps dedicated bandwidth)", or "Max 100 Mbps best-effort type (4 Mbps dedicated bandwidth)" as an option.
The types and versions of pre-installed applications shall be the same as those of standard applications provided by the operating system manufacturer.
Using a web browser, customers can change the details of their subscription. A tool is also available for checking various notices from KDDI (Support Web).

[1]  A blade server is a server connected with necessary number of blades. Each blade is equipped with all the elements necessary for a computer.

"Turbo Linux Appliance Server" is an operating system that allows you to build a Sun Cobalt-compatible Internet/Intranet appliance server. It is not commonly sold in packages. Since it is equipped with a tool that allows easy operation from your usual web browser, your server can be managed easily.
"RAID 1" writes identical data simultaneously on two separate disks. Even if one disk is damaged, the data can be read from another disk, so your system can continue to operate without any problems.
Customers may not change the operating system by themselves.

Optional Services


Dedicated network

The maximum transmission speeds of 100 Mbps and 30 Mbps are offered on a best-effort basis. Stable communications are ensured by using the bandwidths of 4 Mbps and 1 Mbps, respectively, even when the lines are congested.

Secondary DNS (normal and reverse lookups)

We offer both normal and reverse lookups for secondary DNS.

Security settings


Turbolinux and Red Hat Linux
Filter settings will be performed for the server. Offered with usage permission of e-mail, web browsing, FTP, DNS, and SSH.
Windows Server
Filter settings will be performed for the server. Offered with usage permission of e-mail, web browsing, FTP, DNS, and remote desktop.

E-mail account transfer

For customers using KDDI Hosting ervice, settings related to e-mail accounts, aliasses, multiple addressing, and forwarding will be transferred to the KDDI Exclusive Server Service (all the settings will be transferred).

Please note that there are following restrictions regarding transferable e-mail accounts depending on the operating system.

Turbolinux
Accounts with the following conditions can only be transferred: the number of characters included in the e-mail account (characters to the left of "@" mark) is 31 or less, and it starts with an alphabet.
Red Hat Linux
Accounts with the following conditions can only be transferred: the number of characters included in the e-mail account (characters to the left of "@" mark) is 32 or less, and it starts with an alphabet, and "." (period) is not used.
Windows Server
This additional service is not available.

Service initialization

This involves reinstalling the operating system and returning the server to its original state (we do not guarantee the safety of any software you have installed or data you have saved, so please make sure to retrieve them beforehand).

Server rebooting

This involves physically turning off and on the power of the server.

Administrative user ID/password initialization

This involves initializing the password of the Support Web's administrative user.

Root user rescue


Turbolinux/Red Hat linux
If for some reason, your operating system malfunctions, the blade activiates this service from the emergency system and your hard disk will be mounted. You can then retreive the files you need through FTP and repair the damaged files. You can also change your user account password (the log-in ID for working on the command line).
Windows Server
You can change your user account password (the log-in ID for Windows Server).
