More and more companies are unifying their corporate networks into a single network for types of traffic (e.g., Internet and voice) in order to lower operation costs and man-hours. This trend has increased the need for reliability in the backbone network. This has in turn made it necessary to have redundancy in the network to provide backup in the event of failure. However, implementing redundancy results in problems related to cost and quality.
KDDI's Dual Access Service is a new service that provides hot standby for KDDI Powered Ethernet extra access, which has an SLA 99.99% network availability. KDDI's new proprietary system "SENS"[1] (patent pending) makes is possible to easily enjoy the same high level of quality and an even a higher level of reliability for a reasonable rate.

Hot standby in the access zone makes it possible to automatically switch to the backup line in the event that the main line fails. This results in a reduction in recovery time of several hours to a few seconds! Adding the Dual Access Service to the already very reliable KDD Powered Ethernet network (SLA 99.99% network availability) achieves an extremely high level of reliability.
Since the switch between lines is made in Layer 2, you do not need to make an integrity check of your routing protocol, configure any devices or making any additional settings. Implementation of KDDI's Dual Access Service is a breeze, with no additional operation load on your behalf.
The backup line is guaranteed to be the same in all aspects (e.g., operations, speed, and quality) of the main line. There is no drop in quality after the switch is made to the backup line as is the case with some best effort models. Moreover, since the backup line shares the same path as the main line, the cost is only 20% of that of the main contract line.
