KDDI Expands Global Passport, International Roaming Service to Saipan and Shenyang, China

Tokyo, May 13, 2003 - KDDI Corp. and Okinawa Cellular announced today a tie up with Guamcellular and Paging Inc. to provide the international roaming service Global Passport in Saipan. The expanded service will begin May 26. Through the Global Passport system domestic au mobile phones can be overseas. au is Japan's first branded mobile phone carrier which offers roaming services in Saipan and with the inclusion of Saipan, Global Passport has now reached ten countries.
The Global Passport Service, which is also offered in China reached coverage of twenty-four cities one year after its introduction, with the addition of Shenyang, China from April 24. KDDI will continue working to further expand service in China and in other parts of Asia.
This service does not require any special application to be submitted or optional charges. Overseas users simply dial as they normally would on any domestic au branded cellular phone call. At present, the service is offered among eight telecom carriers: SK Telecom (South Korea), Hutchison Telecom (Hong Kong), Verizon Wireless (USA, including Hawaii), Guam Cellular (Guam and Saipan), Telstra (Australia), TELUS Mobility (Canada), Telecom Mobile (New Zealand), and China Unicom (China).
KDDI is making preparations to offer the Global Passport service in conjunction with telecom carriers that use the CDMA system in various countries. It will continue to further expand areas where au brand mobile phones can be used overseas.
