Equipped with a best-in-industry 1.24 million pixel CCD megapixel camera
Photo print quality with a mobile phone camera has finally been achieved with a 1.24 million pixel, progressive CCD camera that allows pictures to be shot in the normal mobile phone size, in VGA size (640x480 bits) for personal computers, and in SXGA size (1280x960 bits) for photo print quality. The camera portion of the phone is compact despite being a megapixel camera thanks to a slim lens that uses industry-leading aspheric glass.
Exif Print-compatible
Printouts can be made with an Exif Print (Exif 2.2)—compatible printer. Printouts more accurately reproduce the conditions at the time the photo was shot by adjusting the image file based on photo data recorded automatically at the time of shooting.

Large movie size-compatible display
On top of being compatible with conventional 96x80 bit Movie Mail, the A5401CA is also compatible with movies shot in 128x96 bit movie size, a high-pixel-number, high-image-quality, large display format. Using the sub-display as the viewfinder, photos and movies can be launched, taken or saved and other operations performed when the handset is closed. Equipped with macro mode, a switch allowing clear images to be taken of small subjects or handwritten notes by turning the filming light on or off with a touch of the # key during filming.

The screen can be split in two and each half used to take pictures so that separate subjects can be shot and combined into a single picture.

PhotoEffector
The A5401CA is compatible with a new service that enables simple creation of slide shows using digital images. Just launching a preinstalled application and selecting an image and one of 18 different slide patterns can easily create slide shows. Subtitles can be inserted and the show can be played back with background music.
Icons can be created from images taken by the user by uploading the image to the server. Slide shows the user creates can also be sent to ezplus-compatible mobile phones and personal computers.

Photo Chara Kobo
The A5401CA is compatible with this EZweb service that enables original 3D characters to be created easily using images taken by a digital camera. The user can create a 3D character simply by selecting an image using a preinstalled application, specifying the scope of the portrait, and choosing the desired character from the EZweb Photo Character Kobo.
The completed 3D character is stored on the Photo Character Kobo site, and can be downloaded at any time. The user can set the downloaded character as the address book or a screensaver, and fun characters will move around on the main display or sub-display. 3D data of the characters can be sent to the A5401CA or A5302CA as email attachments. They can also be sent to au handsets and other gif animation-compatible mobile phones as .gif data from the Photo Chara Kobo using regular web mail.

Long movie and large screen movie (176 x 144 bits) features
The ability to take high resolution, large-size movies (176 x 144 bits) that are even bigger than conventional 128 x 96 bit medium-size movies and 96 x 80 bit small-size movies has been achieved. In addition, shooting long movies of up to 60 seconds is now possible. (A maximum of 60 seconds for small-size movies, 45 seconds for medium and 25 seconds for large).

Motion Eye
Equipped with Motion Eye, technology that allows a 340,000 effective pixel camera and flash to rotate approximately 285 degrees at the hinge of clamshell-type phones. The user can take pictures while watching the display even when taking self-portraits or adjusting the frame during shooting.
The camera was made to turn inward for the sake of protecting the lens when the camera is not in use and for good etiquette.
There are three modes for taking still images: mobile phone mode optimal for sending by email (120 x 160 bits), stand-by screen mode perfect for using as wallpaper on the QVGA display, and PC mode for taking VGA size pictures.
In mobile phone mode, pictures can be taken with up to an 8x (4-step) digital zoom. (PC mode: 3-step digital 3x zoom. Stand-by screen mode: 4-step digital 8x zoom)
With the white balance feature, the user can choose between outside, flash and inside modes. Combined with the auto exposure function, sharp looking images optimized to the background can be taken with ease.

Equipped with Visual Flow software, which allows images to be easily uploaded to Image Station, Sony's online imaging service. Using Jog Dial, the user can view images in the data folder put into motion and in unique forms such as half-circles and straight lines.

Illumination and changeable design covers
The ringer lamp and entire back light up when fielding incoming calls and during conversation. The user can choose from among 24 different colors. Six different preinstalled patterns are available for illuminating the back portion: happy, healing, excite, relax, trance and cool. The user can also create up to 5 types of original illumination patterns. Combined with changeable design patterns "Punching" and "Quilting" included in the handset package, the phone can be customized to the brim with the personality of the user.

The user can freely select the design of menu screens in line with his or her own tastes. In addition to five preinstalled patterns, menu designs can be downloaded from the manufacturer site, SonyEriccson@ez, and used in the screen menus, thus enabling customization of both outer appearance and menu screens.

Photo Mixer
The user can easily create original greeting card email with pictures or email with melodies by combining still images, melody and animation templates and messages. The creation can then be sent as an email attachment. Templates can be downloaded from the manufacturer's original site, Sanyo Keitai Planet.

2.1-inch large screen, max. 260,000 color TFT LCD display with mirror
The main display uses a max. 260,000 colors, 132 x 176 bit LCD with a mirror. The max. 260,000 colors are displayed on a large 2.1-inch LCD screen, despite the compact size of the phone. Photos and movies look better and are more fun to use.
Additionally, with just a press of a button, the display becomes a mirror, perfect for keeping oneself neat.

Graphics of the popular Disney character Donald Duck can be set all at once for the main menu, the wait screen, outgoing and incoming animation and more. Stamps and frames for movies and photos are also included. With an original Donald Duck movie preinstalled, the user can enjoy Donald Duck as a Ringer Movie as well.
Compatible with the popular Chaku-Uta™ service
About 30 seconds of a song's chorus with the artist's vocals—a feature not available with conventional ringer melodies—can be downloaded from EZweb-compatible websites and used as the ringer tone or played back for the user's enjoyment.
Use a movie for the ringer tone and screen with the Ringer Movie mode
Includes the Ringer Movie feature in which the sounds and pictures of a favorite movie either taken by the user or downloaded from an EZweb-compatible site are played back when a call is received.
A movie can be easily set as an original ringer tone and animation.
