KDDI Launches KDDI Hikari Plus, a New Fiber Optics Based Service.

No. 2003-183

2003/10/08

KDDI (TSE: 9433) announced that it will launch a new service called KDDI Hikari Plus. KDDI Hikari Plus provides three services, namely, Hikari Plus Phone (telephony), Hikari Plus Net (Internet) and Hikari Plus TV (TV program and video delivery). KDDI Hikari Plus's infrastructure is made up of high-speed access circuits and KDDI's newly constructed Contents Delivery Network (CDN), which enables smooth video transmission.

Hikari Plus Phone is an improved version of KDDI's IP telephony platform. It provides the same basic level of functionality available through normal phone lines, whilst offering low communication fees.

Hikari Plus Net is a high-speed Internet access service enabled only through use of fiber optics.

Hikari Plus TV is a TV program and video delivery service that enables users to enjoy high-grade video programs, including multi-channel broadcasting programs as well as Hollywood movies. The service is available by connecting set top boxes (STB) provided by KDDI to the user's television at home.

KDDI Hikari Plus will be launched on October 10, 2003. Initially, it will be available primarily to large condominiums in major cities nationwide.
