KDDI Announces "Office Wise" Local Area au Call Service; Industry First Mobile Extension for Corporate and PBX Networks

KDDI has announced "Office Wise", a new au based service designed to provide an inexpensive mobile and seamless PBX call-service alternative for corporate clients in their local office buildings and plant areas. "Office Wise", the first service of its kind in the industry, will launch on November 30, 2004, in the Tokyo area, with rapid expansion to the Osaka and Nagoya areas.
Office Wise customers use the local area wireless call service by simply installing the required Office Wise equipment at the business site and pre-registering a local area number (up to 11 digits) for use with their au mobile phone units. In addition to calls between registered mobile phones, users can make calls to the extension lines of existing PBX networks by simply adding the "*55" prefix to the extension line number being called.
Designed to enhance work efficiency by ensuring, for example, that staff receive their calls even when away from the desk, Office Wise is intended as an alternative to existing corporate extension-line based networks. Other advantages include greater freedom in designing business site layout through the elimination of excessive traditional wiring. This will also serve to improve site construction efficiency and significantly reduce costs.
Office Wise is designed for use with standard au mobile phones (cdmaOne, CDMA 1X and CDMA 1X WIN), making it easy for users to change models as required. It can also be used in conjunction with various mobile solutions services including the au mobile phone-based Keitai Office service.
The Office Wise local area call service will cost only ¥900 (¥945, including consumption tax) per month, offering a significant reduction from standard mobile phone rates for business communication. Calls to the local area number of a registered mobile phone unit located outside the designated local area are automatically rerouted to that phone. The charge for rerouted calls to outside-area phone units will be ¥30/min. (¥31.5/min. including consumption tax).
Standard mobile phone charges will apply for calls made from Office Wise registered mobile phones to standard mobile phones, standard subscriber landline phones, IP phones and from registered phones that are located outside the local area.
This system's name, "Office Wise", is an expression of how mobile technology can be used wisely in office environments. "Wise" represents the first letters of the elements that comprise this service, which include Wireless, Intelligent and Synergy Effect (combining traditional services with mobile solutions).
