KDDI to Launch talby; Third Release from the 'au' Design Project <Reference>

The 'au' design project is a design development project that KDDI started in 2001. KDDI works with Japanese and international designers and their corporations to develop a concept model for release every year. This project aims to use design to create new shapes and new experiences for mobile phones. "talby" was developed based on the 2003 prototype.

 | Biography of Marc Newson |

Marc Newson was born in 1963 in Sydney, Australia. After graduating from the Sydney College of the Arts, he worked as a product designer in London and Paris.
Marc Newson is one of the most accomplished and influential designers of his generation. He continues to work across a wide range of disciplines to create everything from household objects, furniture, restaurants, watches, and interiors of airplanes. He has won international acclaim for his beautiful visions and complete originality. He has worked for companies all over the world, including Flos, Cappellini, Magis, Nike, Alessi, Samsonite, Qantus Airlines and Ford, for whom he created the concept car 021C. Many of his designs are part of major permanent museum collections at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, London's Design Museum, Musée national d'Art moderne in Paris, Centre Georges Pompidou and the Vitra Design Museum. Newson's recent projects include the concept jet, Kelvin40, commissioned by the Fondation Cartier, and the official uniform of the Australian Olympic team for the games in Athens.

Nick Wood was born in Liverpool, England, in 1964. After studying at a music school in Liverpool, he started his career writing music at London's Marcus Studio. In 1983 he formed the pop group "Appassionata" and signed a contract with Virgin Records. Wood came to Japan for the first time in 1989, jumpstarting his musical career in Japan with Akina Nakamori's "Femme Fatale" and "Kaze wa Sora no Kanata" and Kikkawa Koji's "Glamorous Jump."
Wood has also written and produced music for over 1,000 commercials for companies such as BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, Toyota, Sony, Shiseido, P&G, Japan Lever, Kirin, Kewpie, McDonalds and Haagen Dazs. Wood's "Passion" (2000), a commercial theme song for aid for Japanese players in the Kirin Cup, recorded an unprecedented long run of on-air time. In addition to commercial theme songs, he works on writing the music and lyrics for movies, such as the soundtrack for "Dream Island," directed by Wim Wenders.
