KDDI Develops EZ-Appli, Bluetooth "au Mobile Phone Robot Controller" for the Bi-Pedal "Bluetooth Robot"

KDDI Corporation and Tokyo-based I Bee K.K., an affiliate of the "KDDI Mobile Solutions Partner" (KDDI-MSP) [1] program, have developed the "au Mobile Phone Robot Controller", an au mobile phone-based EZ-Appli ("Brew®" [2]), Bluetooth™ controller for the bi-pedal walking "Bluetooth™ Robot". The remote controller, easily installed by downloading the application to the "W21T" model au mobile phone which includes a BlueToothtm unit, is the first of its kind using Bluetooth™ wireless communication. Further extensibility is also promising, as the Bluetooth™ Remote control uses bi-directional communication.

[1]  KDDI Mobile Solution Partner (KDDI-MSP), provides broad, pro-active support for venders developing mobile service solutions using the au mobile platform. Technical information and support is provided to promote development, sample applications and sales collaboration promotes business development, and collaborative production of pamphlets, catalogs, etc. using KDDI branding supports product promotions.

Operating Procedures
1)  Download the "au Mobile Phone Robot Controller" to the au Mobile Phone from the dedicated server.
2)  Launch the "au Mobile Phone Robot Controller" and connect to the "Bluetooth™ Robot".
3)  Connect to the Action Download Server from the "au Mobile Phone Robot Controller" and download the desired actions.
4)  Send actions from the "au Mobile Phone Robot Controller" to the "Bluetooth™ Robot".
5)  Send movement commands to the robot from the "au Mobile Phone Robot Controller" [3] using the cursor and number keys on the au Mobile phone and the "Bluetooth™ Robot" will perform the specified actions (Refer to the reference material).

[3]  Actions can also be created and sent using the included PC software.

Features
1)  World's first remote control for a bi-pedal walking robot using Bluetooth™ communications.
2)  Initial robot model designed for large-scale production based on Jin Sato's C1 model.
3)  First low-cost production model in Japan featuring gyro-sensors and acceleration sensors as standard features [4].
4)  Original actions can be created using the included PC software.

Costs
No registration or monthly fees are required, however, packet usage fees will be charged for download of the "au Mobile Phone Robot Controller" BREW® application and downloaded actions.

Development Delivery Schedule
The "au Mobile Phone Robot Controller" is scheduled for release in late February. The "Bluetooth™ Robot", to be distributed bu I Bee, is scheduled to go on sale in late February
