KDDI Corporation
Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company

2005/03/25

KDDI and Okinawa Cellular will start to provide GLOBAL PASSPORT service that allows voice international roaming overseas as well as domestic service in a single mobile phone in Anhui and Sichuan provinces in China as of April 1. The newly added cities are listed in the table further below.

GLOBAL PASSPORT has been available in China since April 24, 2002. With the addition of 23 new cities, it is now possible to use the service in 264 cities in 4 direct controlled municipalities, 20 provinces and 4 autonomous regions. Chengdu in Sichuan Province is one of the cities added at this time, so all cities accessible by direct flight from Japan are now covered (as of March 25, 2005).

A high-end CDMA 1X handset with a mega-pixel camera, the A5505SA (manufactured by Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd.) supports GLOBAL PASSPORT and enables users to listen to FM radio overseas. It is available in time for the spring travel season in "Sheen Silver" , a combination of silver and white, just right for business or travel. Users may now select from a broader range of GLOBAL PASSPORT models, including the A5505SA (Shine Gold and Shadow Purple) and the A1305SA (gradation red and striped blue), on sale now.

The GLOBAL PASSPORT international roaming service does not require special applications or option fees, and the same au mobile phone number that is used in Japan can be used overseas. Currently KDDI is providing service with 14 carriers in 15 countries and regions including China, Korea, the U.S., Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Thailand, Taiwan and Indonesia. We are now preparing to provide service in each country with CDMA carriers, and will further expand the overseas areas where au mobile phones can be used.
