KDDI Announces Start of International Data Roaming Service in Taiwan

KDDI and Okinawa Cellular are pleased to announce the launch of GLOBAL PASSPORT data roaming services in Taiwan from Thursday, July 7th. GLOBAL PASSPORT is an international roaming service that enables au handsets used in Japan to be utilized overseas without modification. Taiwan, following Korea and Thailand, is the third country outside Japan where data roaming service for au handsets is available.
Customers using the A5505SA handset, manufacturered by Sanyo Electric and compatible with the data roaming service, will be able to exchange e-mail and access the Web, in addition to the current voice-call service in Taiwan, without applying in advance.
The data roaming service is also scheduled to become available in countries other than Korea Thailand, and Taiwan where GLOBAL PASSPORT voice-call service is provided. KDDI and Okinawa Cellular will continue working to make au phones even more convenient for use overseas.
