KDDI Announces Start of International Data Roaming Service in China

KDDI and Okinawa Cellular are pleased to announce the September 2nd launch of GLOBAL PASSPORT data roaming services in China. GLOBAL PASSPORT is an international roaming service that enables au handsets used in Japan to be utilized overseas without modification. China, following Korea, Thailand and Taiwan is the forth country outside Japan where data roaming service for au handsets is available.
Customers using the A5505SA handset, manufactured by Sanyo Electric and compatible with the data roaming service, will be able to exchange e-mail and access the Web, in addition to the current voice-call service in all government-ruled municipalities, provinces, and autonomous regions in China, without applying in advance.
The data roaming service is also scheduled to become available in countries other than Korea, Thailand, Taiwan and China where GLOBAL PASSPORT voice-call service is provided. KDDI and Okinawa Cellular will continue working to make au phones even more convenient for use overseas.
