KDDI Announces Plans for Mobile Number Portability (MNP) and Special Temporary Reservation Service for New Subscribers;
—No Fees for MNP Transfer to au Cell Phones—

KDDI and Okinawa Cellular are pleased to announce service plans for customers wishing to take advantage of Mobile Number Portability (MNP), a new standard in mobile telephony scheduled to take effect on Tuesday, October 24. Details are set out below.

At the same time, KDDI is also pleased to announce a temporary reservation service for new subscriptions from Friday, September 1, for customers wishing to open new contracts for an MNP-enabled au cellular service. With the temporary reservation service for new subscriptions, reservations can be made until October 23 of this year.

The following fees are applicable for using MNP when transferring to an au cell phone (contract renewal) and transferring from an au cell phone or Tu-ka cell phone (contract termination):

Transfer fees to an au cell phone
Reservation and transfer fees
from an au or Tu-ka cell phone
No Fee

* A separate administrative fee of ¥2,700 (¥2,835 inc. tax) for contract processing will apply.
¥2,000 (¥2,100 inc. tax)

* A separate contract termination fee may apply in instances where the contract is a yearly contract for discounted service and the transfer takes place in a month other than the renewal month.
* This fee is not required when transferring a contract for the same phone number from a Tu-ka cell phone to an au cell phone.

Please visit our site on the au hyper portal to register for the "temporary reservation service for new subscriptions," or visit an authorized au dealer. A special new application form will be sent by post to individuals who have registered online with the appropriate information. Customers can complete registration by taking this application to an authorized au dealer. A bonus of 1,000 au points [1] (worth ¥2,000) will be awarded to customers who transfer to au, using the temporary reservation service for new subscriptions.

[1]  au points will be available for use two months after the agreement is concluded. Please note that some dealers will not handle the temporary reservation service for new subscriptions.
