Cessation of Cellular "TU-KA" Service by Parent KDDI Japan in March 2008

KDDI Corporation

2006/12/07

On March 2008, KDDI will terminate the TU-KA cellular service.

TU-KA service from each provider - TU-KA Phone Kansai since April 1994, TU-KA Cellular Tokyo since June 1994, and TU-KA Cellular Tokai since July 1994 - has been highly regarded by customers, due to its simplicity and ease of use.

In October 2005, KDDI acquired the three TU-KA Group companies, and started enabling customers to change their subscription to the au service, while keeping the same phone number and e-mail address [1]. Subsequently, this June 30, KDDI ceased to accept new subscriptions for TU-KA.

As migration of subscriptions to au, keeping the same phone number and e-mail address, is progressing, KDDI has decided to integrate all its cellular services into au, in order to increase customer satisfaction further.

Accordingly, the sale of upgraded handset models for TU-KA will also cease on December 31.

Looking ahead, KDDI will meet a broad range of customer needs by utilizing, in the au service, the simplicity and ease of use that have earned TU-KA its good reputation.

In addition, to prevent inconvenience to customers who currently use the TU-KA service, from January 2007, the fee of 2,700 yen (2,835 yen inc. tax) for changing subscription from TU-KA to au while keeping the same phone number and e-mail address will be waived. Meanwhile, KDDI will proactively take various steps to ensure a smooth migration to au; for example, by informing users of these developments through direct mail and advertising.
