KDDI Announces a New Company for the Creation of Employment for People with Disabilities

KDDI Corporation

April 8, 2008

In order to strengthen KDDI's various diversity-related measures, such as employing various types of people, supporting the work of female employees, creating an environment conductive to establishing a work-life balance through efforts including support for childcare/nursing, and promoting the employment of people with disabilities, the company created a Diversity Promotion Office within the Human Resources Department on April 1, 2008.

One project of the Diversity Promotion Office was the creation on April 14, 2008 of a new company whose purpose is to promote the employment of people with disabilities.

By founding this new company and providing a stable work environment that takes into consideration the various conditions of people with disabilities, KDDI is creating a workplace where people can find both a reason to work and live and expanding employment opportunities.

The new company will be mainly involved in general office operations and mobile handset disassembly operations for recycling outsourced from KDDI, and is expected to open a massage room in August 2008 with the goal of increasing and maintaining the health of employees. During FY2008, the company is expected to employ 20 people with disabilities, and the goal is to double employment through various measures such as expanding the scope of work in FY2009.

After launching operations, the newly-established company is expected to apply for certification as a special subsidiary (tokureikogaisha) as stipulated by the Law for the Promotion of the Employment of People with Disabilities by October 2008, giving special consideration to the employment of people with disabilities and certified by the national government based on the Law for the Promotion of the Employment of People with Disabilities. People with disabilities employed at the special subsidiary are considered to be employed by the parent company.
