September 26, 2011

KDDI and Okinawa Cellular will start providing an automatic photo backup service called "au one Photo Air powered by Eye-Fi" (referred to as au one Photo Air hereinafter) for au smartphones starting from mid November 2011. This service will apply technology from Eye-Fi Inc. (headquarters: Mountain View, California, USA; CEO: Yuval Koren). Also, in order to make it easier for consumers try out the service, KDDI plans to offer a free trial [1] lasting up until February 2012 (date subject to change).

By simply processing an easy initial setup on your au smartphone and a computer, "au one Photo Air" will automatically send the photos and videos saved on your phone to the computer you designate via Wimax/Wi-Fi network.[2].
This allows users to save large photo and video files onto a computer without having to use a USB cable.

The technologies of Eye-Fi Inc. enabled wirelessly and automatically back up users' photo and video to PC through WiMAX/Wi-FI network. Since 2007, Eye-Fi Inc. has been providing a service that wirelessly and automatically transfers photos and videos stored in digital cameras using an SD card called an "Eye-Fi Card" that comes equipped with a Wi-Fi module [3]. This service has enabled the transfer of a total of over 200 million photos for users [4].

In addition to being offered at the KDDI app market, "au one Market," the "au one Photo Air" service can be accessed even easier by installing an application shortcut in the AQUOS PHONE IS13SH, ARROWS Z ISW11F, or DIGNO ISW11K.
