1.Outline
The project will involve the construction of a system that will allow use of the networking resources of Tokyo University from EZweb compatible cellular-phones, while also ensuring that the security of the University's intramural network is maintained. The trials will seek to verify the areas listed below. The system to be tested is due to be brought into operation within the premises of Tokyo university once the tests have been successfully concluded.
(1)The availability of on-campus email functions on EZweb compatible cellular- phones
(2)The availability confirmation of on-campus shared terminals from EZweb compatible cellular-phones
(3)The capacity to view on-campus bulletin boards on its intranet from EZweb compatible cellular-phones

From October 2000 to March 31 2001 (current schedule)

Approximately 30,000 students of Tokyo University


4.Features
  • With 30,000 users, the system will be one of the largest in the country.
  • Use of Wireless Application Protocol (WAP standard protocol) enables low-cost system construction.
  • The availability of a uniform email address without using separate addresses for on-campus Tokyo University and cellular-phones
