cdmaOne Subscribers Top 10 Million

Tokyo, November 8, 2001 - KDDI Corp. and Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company are pleased to announce that the total number of subscribers for the cdmaOne wireless service rose to more than 10 million on November 6th.

cdmaOne is a cost-effective global mobile phone system developed by Qualcomm of the U.S. with extremely good voice quality. DDI and IDO (both now a part of KDDI) agreed in March 1997 to introduce cdmaOne services by unifying nationwide standards. From July 1998, KDDI started offering cdmaOne services in the Kansai and Kyushu regions, as well as in Okinawa. In April 1999, the Company finished building a seamless network across Japan, and started the EZweb wireless internet service.

From January 2000, KDDI started offering nationwide packet services of up to 64 Kbps and then, in April the same year, started offering Japan's first international roaming service, "Global Passport" in Hong Kong and South Korea, and is now striving to expand the number of target countries.

KDDI will from here on continuously improve and develop cdmaOne services, maximising the potential of its nationwide network to improve service quality and functionality, and will keep working to upgrade the service to meet customers' needs.
