KDDI to Open Japan's Largest Data Center in
Shibuya, Central Tokyo




Tokyo, December 3, 2001 - KDDI Corp. is pleased to announce that on April 4, 2002 it will open Japan's largest Internet data center in the Shibuya district of central Tokyo. From December 3, 2001 KDDI will also start accepting applications from customers.

The data center in Shibuya is inside a 15-story high-rise tower and a four-story low-rise tower with a massive 15,000 m2 of dedicated floor space. It is larger than KDDI's other principal data center sites at Shinjuku, Otemachi and Odaiba.

The opening of this data center brings the number of data centers KDDI operates around Japan to 27 in 12 cities, with a total combined floor space of 40,000 m2, making it the largest domestic provider of Internet data center services.

For 10 years, KDDI has provided top quality services to its clients, and through the experience and knowledge it has built up in providing data center services, the Company expects to continue to meet the needs of its sophisticated and diversified customers in the future.


Outline of data center:
1. Preeminent location
The data center is located next to JR Shibuya Station and national highway 246, allowing easy access.
2. Specifications
Power source: High capacity UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) and private power generators are installed, ensuring sufficient power supply. Customer power consumption is monitored inside the building.
Air conditioning: The data center uses the latest and most efficient air conditioning systems.
3. Varied and reliable network environment
All network services KDDI offers can be used as plug-ins.
Users can connect directly to a high-capacity KDDI backbone through multiple channels.
4. Security
All data centers are protected from access by non-authorized persons, while non-contact IC cards, and closed circuit cameras are also installed as part of the security system.
5. Simple charge structure
Charges for racks, private storage cages, and other collocation services are offered in simple packages, and include monthly charges for space, air conditioning/power, and basic systems operation.
6. Thorough systems management
With extensive experience in outsourcing, KDDI offers its customers around the clock, top-quality supervision and maintenance of their facilities.


Services
1. Collocation service
KDDI offers users three types of collocation service to suit its customers' needs; 'Open Collocation', where users rent space to stand ; 'Rack Collocation', where users rent sets of 19-inch racks; and 'Cage Collocations', where users have open rack space in a private cage to guarantee maximum security,
2. Connection options
KDDI provides a complete line up of connection lines, from low speed to ultra high speed, to suit the different network environments of its customers. In addition, through a plug-in connection, users can directly access KDDI's backbone and create a secure network environment.

Intranet system: IP-VPN, DOD and dedicated lines, frame relay, cell relay, ATM and Ether-VPN
Internet system: Ether-direct, Internet gateway
Audio system: Direct line 1500, route KDDI1500

3. Data Center Ethernet Service
To meet the rising demand for broadband services, KDDI offers high-speed Ethernet connections of 10Mbps, 100Mbps and 1Gpbs at its data centers. With a plug-in connection, users can easily access Internet exchanges and intranets. From January 2002, this service will be available at KDDI data centers in Osaka and Nagoya.
4. Managed Storage Service (powered by HITACHI)
Storage capacity, functionality and reliability are of the highest quality, and necessary disk capacity can be provided on demand at a cost-effective price. In addition, tape backup services are also available in case of emergency situations.
5. Site management service
Maintenance services that help reduce customer site management loads are offered as part of a simple package. The service includes monitoring of client equipment, problem solving, as well as changing of DAT tapes, periodic server reboot and other regular tasks that stand to save customer time. In addition, users can also make personal requests for services.
