KDDI Expands Coverage of GLOBAL PASSPORT International
Roaming Service In US, China



Tokyo, July 8, 2002 - KDDI Corp. and Okinawa Cellular Telephone Co., will from July 10th expand the coverage area of its international roaming service "GLOBAL PASSPORT" in the U.S. to include Los Angeles and San Diego as well as 10 cities in China, including Tianjin, Qingdao and Nanjing.

KDDI launched the service in the US in July 2000 and it is now available in 54 cities and regions including the four islands of Hawaii. Los Angeles, and San Diego will be added on July 10th bringing the total number of cities and areas to 56.

In China the service was launched in Beijing and Shanghai in April. KDDI now plans to extend the service to include Tianjin, Qingdao, Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Zhongshan, Shenzhen, Xiamen bringing the number of cities where the service is available to 12.

The service requires no application or optional fees and allows customers to take their au mobile phones overseas and use with the same phone number. The service is currently available in six countries including the Republic of Korea (SK Telecom), Hong Kong (Hutchison), the U.S. (Verizon Wireless), Australia (Telstra), Canada (TELUS Mobility), New Zealand (Telecom Mobile, and China (China United Telecommunications Corporation)

KDDI is preparing to work with other companies using CDMA and plans to continue expanding the au wireless service area overseas.
