In the U.S. the service will be extended to eight additional cities: Detroit, Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, Cleveland, Minneapolis, Baltimore, and Sacramento. In China, the service will become available in Harbin, Chang Chun, Dalian, Xian, Wuhan, Chongqing, Kunming, and Guilin

KDDI started the service in the U.S. on July 27 and with these new additions brings the area covered from 57 cities and regions (including the four Hawaiian islands and Guam) to 65 cities and regions.

KDDI started the service in China on April 24 in Bejing and Shanghai and then, from July 10, extended it to 10 cities including Tianjin. On July 19th it was extended again to include Guangzhou and Zhuhai. With the extension of the coverage area to include the cities mentioned above the number of cities in China where the service is available now comes to 23, including Hong Kong.

The service requires no application or optional fees and allows customers to take their au mobile phones overseas and use with the same phone number.

The service is currently available in six countries through partnerships with seven countries including the Republic of Korea (SK Telecom), Hong Kong (Hutchison), the U.S. (Verizon Wireless), Australia (Telstra), Canada (TELUS Mobility), New Zealand (Telecom Mobile), and China (China United Telecommunications Corporation) KDDI is preparing to work with other companies using CDMA and plans to continue expanding the au wireless service area overseas.
