The R&D activities of KDDI have their origins in research work begun on international telecommunications in 1953. Since that time, KDDI has progressed from short-wave telegraph and telephony services to technologies such as transpacific coaxial submarine cables, satellite communications such as for television broadcast relays, network digitalization, optical submarine cables, the Internet, and multimedia applications. KDDI has been developing cutting-edge technologies in each era as above, contributing to the worldwide information technology industry through a wide range of fields.
