Service contents
- 01. How does this service reduce costs?
-
01. Until now, phone users have had to funnel calls through the telephony equipment of NTT East or NTT West and relay telephone companies chosen through MYLINE etc. This made it necessary to pay basic rates for NTT East or NTT West and payments to relay telephone companies. With Metal-plus Phone, KDDI provides the portion equivalent to NTT East and NTT West subscriber lines. This is what makes basic rates cheaper for this service (excluding residential class one stations). In addition, KDDI also offers reduced calling rates by using a high quality KDDI IP network as relay telephone network. This has actualized a rate system that is less expensive and simpler than ever before.
- 02. What areas is this service offered in?
-
02. This service is available in major cities across Japan. Click here to check detailed service area information.
- 03. How much time does it take for the service to start after applying?
-
03. For customers who have already subscribed to NTT subscriber phone, it takes approx. 2 - 3 weeks to launch the network.
When a construction to set up a new network is required, it takes approx. 3 - 4 weeks to launch the network.- *
- Please check the network's launch date in the "Information for New Users" (GORIYOU KAISHI NO GOAN-NAI) which will be sent to customers before the network's launch.
In some cases, it will take more before the service becomes available due to flaw in application form or condition of line equipment. - *
- If you apply for an area that will be serviced in the future, service processing will commence as soon as service becomes available in that area.
- *
- Some facility conditions may prevent servicing even within the service areas.
- 04. Are there any quality problems or other problems?
-
04. Metal-plus Phone is a phone service that uses a high quality KDDI IP network. It provides calling quality and stability on par with existing services, and has made emergency calls possible.
- 05. Can I install a new phone?
-
05. Yes. In the case of NTT East/NTT West subscriber phone, the phone equipment installation charge (telephone subscription right) of ¥37,800 is required. In the case of Metal-plus Phone, such installation charge is not required. However, fees for setting up a new network (¥7,140) and other charges are separately incurred. KDDI provides a new phone number beginning with the area code. Ex: 03-6678-XXXX
- 06. Can I use a dial-up Internet connection?
-

- Modem transmission can be affected by your home environment, telecommunication equipment, and line condition.
- 07. Can I use ADSL?
-
07. You can use "ADSL one". If you are currently using ADSL from another company, you cannot continue to use that ADSL service and Metal-plus Phone, so the ADSL service from another company needs to be canceled.

- 12. Can I call toll-free numbers?

- 15. Can I call 110 and 119?
-
15. Yes. You can also call 118 (Coast Guard). When you call these numbers, your information (the address, name, and phone number of the contracted party) is relayed to the emergency center you call. Even lines that are set to withhold caller ID relay your information to emergency centers unless you dial 184 (as long as you dial 184 first each time you make a call, your information is not relayed).
- 16. Can I call 113 (telephone technical faults hotline) and 116 (moving and general inquiries)?
-
16. For inquiries about issues such as phone technical faults and moving, call the KDDI Customer Service Center. NTT East and NTT West's 113 and 116 are not available.
- 17. Can I call 117 (time announcements) and 177 (weather forecast)?
-

- 21. When is interior house wiring work required?
-
21. Construction work is required when a telephone line is to be installed from a protective device or MDF to the telephone installation location, for example, in the case of a new building or addition of lines. Or when a modular jack must be installed (connection) even in the environment where a telephone line has been already installed.
No construction work is required if an existing NTT East/NTT West line can be used by switchover.
- 22. Can I use Metal-plus Phone and other companies' optical fiber service at the same time?
-
22. Metal-plus Phone can be used even while using the Internet through other companies' optical fiber service. However, customers using VDSL Internet are not allowed to newly subscribe to the Metal-plus Phone service due to a possibility that construction to establish a connection cannot be performed in an apartment building.
Switch over from NTT East/NTT West and number portability
- 01. What should I do with the NTT East or NTT West line I have been using up until now?
