Malicious activities under the name of KDDI or KDDI's agency/construction work shop

Notes

Malicious activities have been reported: A person calling themself an employee of KDDI or KDDI's agency/construction work shop, although completely unrelated with KDDI, visited a customer's home to collect phone charges, or pretended to conduct some work at a customer's home and then requested the payment for the construction. Customer are warned to be aware of such malicious activities.

Case 1

A person visited a customer's home under the guise of construction work for the Internet (au one net) or Metal-plus Phone, and then requested the immediate payment for the construction by cash or a credit card.

In principle, KDDI will not request the immediate payment for construction. [1]
When we visit a customer's home for the Rush Setup Support service (to configure the Internet connection setup) or the construction of Metal-plus Phone, customers will be billed by KDDI along with monthly usage rates and other charges at a later date.

  • [1]
Cases where the construction staff request the immediate payment
When equipment necessary for the connection setup (e.g. LAN cable, LAN card) cannot be found at a customer's home, construction staff may provide it on site. In this case, the customer is billed by the construction staff who sold this equipment. A receipt is issued.

Case 2

A person visited a customer's home and pretended to collect money as basic monthly charges, saying "I am collecting money" or "It would be more convenient if you pay by bank transfer".

KDDI or KDDI's agency/construction work shop never visit a customer's home personally, collecting usage charges or requesting a lump-sum payment to make a contract.

A person in charge at KDDI or KDDI's agency/construction work shop (Rush Setup Support service) will:

  1. identify himself by revealing his name and company name (name of a commissioning company in the case of an employee of a construction work shop).
  2. carry/have a delegation certificate for the sales service or construction work which proves that he belongs to KDDI's agency.
  3. never visit a customer's home to collect money.
  4. never make a call to a customer's home to ask for information known only by a customer (e.g. password).
