Introducing high speed data communication "WIN HIGH SPEED" that matches the "EV-DO Multi-Carrier" technology

KDDI Corporation
Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company

October 18, 2010

KDDI Corporation and Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company became first companies to adopt "EV-DO Rev.A" as the data communication infrastructure for au mobile phones in December, 2006. The two companies today announced to introduce "WIN HIGH SPEED," the expanded system that allows 9.2 Mbps downlink and 5.5 Mbps uplink speed at maximum, simultaneously with models compatible with the technology.

"EV-DO Multi-Carrier" technology realizes high-speed data communication by bundling two or three "EV-DO Rev.A" carriers (carrier waves) . Efficient usage of data communication becomes possible by having one mobile phone use multiple carriers. Compared to the current "EV-DO Rev.A," where one mobile phone uses one carrier, the speed triples at maximum [1] [2].

The speed mentioned is the maximum speed by technical standard and does not show the actual usage speed. The speed may slow down significantly depending on the communication environment and traffic status.
