12. Service Area
		If the A5000 / A3000 / A1000 series are used within the CDMA2000 1x supported service area, data transmission speeds of up to 144 kbps are achievable. Even in areas outside that range (i.e. cdmaOne areas), audio data transmission and 64-kbps packet data transmission as well as all earlier services are still available. Since the service launch on 1 April 2002, 33 prefectures and 477 municipal districts including all major cities designated by government ordinance are covered. Fuelled by proactive expansion of areas covered, up until August of this year coverage has reached 47 prefectures across Japan.
		Furthermore, by the end of September this year an extra 326 municipal districts will be added, and the service will be made accessible in 47 prefectures and 1,558 municipal districts. Owing to this, the rate of coverage by population at the end of the first half of this year is expected to be approximately 91% in the Kanto, Chubu, and Kansai districts, and approximately 85% nationally. Looking ahead, as CDMA2000 1x combines swift area expansion and enhanced transmission quality upgrades, by the end of December this year it is planned that the rate of coverage by population nationally will be increased to approximately 90%.
