KDDI Announces Start of GLOBAL PASSPORT International Roaming Services in Brazil

KDDI Corporation
Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company

2007/07/26

KDDI and Okinawa Cellular are pleased to announce the July 31 launch of international voice roaming services in Brazil for users of GLOBAL PASSPORT, the international roaming service offered by KDDI that allows enabled au handset models to be used overseas with the same number as in Japan, without any special application procedure or optional charges. Through collaboration with Brazilian mobile carrier Vivo S/A ("Vivo"), voice roaming will become available in Vivo's service area.

GLOBAL PASSPORT voice roaming services will now be available in 23 countries and territories overall, including the United States, China, and South Korea.

KDDI and Okinawa Cellular are also making arrangements with CDMA carriers in other countries to provide Global Passport in order to continuously expand the overseas service area for au mobiles.

* Customers using the A5527SA, A5514SA, or A5505SA among the compatible models are requested to update the roaming area data stored in their handset, by downloading the overseas carrier's PRL (roaming area data) from EZweb before traveling.
* The PRL contains information on roaming areas of overseas partner providers. The latest PRL is necessary for users to roam in an area where a new roaming service is introduced. Users should download and update information stored on their handsets before they leave Japan. For more information, please refer to au's website. Subscription to the EZweb service is required for using this function.
