With "KDDI Global Powered Ethernet," the secure and timely network environment has been constructed and the offshoring of operations to China has become possible with the use of thin client terminals.

JCB Co., Ltd. has been restructuring its business processing system through offshoring of operations to Dalian, China since FY2008 in order to reduce operational costs and enhance business competitiveness.
For the transfer of its business, JCB has adopted the thin client system which enables the company to carry out business activities without leaving their personal data abroad.
The company has adopted "KDDI Global Powered Ethernet" as the network connecting between China and Japan and successfully constructed the operating environment equivalent to that of Japan, by minimizing network delay.
Additionally, as KDDI provides a one-stop service from the establishment of a network to its operation, the smooth construction and efficient operational management have become possible.

The adoption of "KDDI Global Powered Ethernet" enables minimization of network delay and quick and reliable data response.

JCB Co., Ltd. has been restructuring its business processing system through offshoring of operations to Dalian, China in order to reduce operational costs and enhance business competitiveness. For the transfer of its business, JCB has newly adopted the thin client system that leaves no personal data on China's side, aiming to transfer the business in a secure system environment.
As for the network which plays a role of "lifeline" in the thin client system, it was believed that maintaining high bandwidth and minimizing network delay are essential to carry out business promptly and reliably.

To meet these requirements, "KDDI Global Powered Ethernet," the international wide-area Ethernet service, has been chosen as network for the thin client system. This service minimizes delay in the backbone network and enables prompt and reliable data response. Mr. Suzaki, Assistant Manager, Infrastructure Development Division, Systems Department of JCB Co., Ltd., explained reasons for the adoption of the service as follows: "It was important how much data transmission delay can be reduced in order to establish the thin client system that involves frequent communication between Japan and China. KDDI prepared a technical proposal presenting the estimation of delay based on clearer evidence, which encouraged us to adopt their service.
We had been worried until the launch of the service, but the actual response exceeded our expectations. We are quite pleased that we can carry out our business activities in the same system environment as that of Japan without using buffer that was initially thought to be indispensable."

As the introduction of the thin client system was the first attempt for JCB, the company was required to perform various tests for verification not only on the system itself, but also on applications and technologies after constructing the actual network. In order to perform these tests for verification reliably and complete the thin client system as planned, strict observance of delivery time for the network construction was an absolute requirement.

Mr. Fujita, Junior Manager, Infrastructure Development Group, Infrastructure Development Division, Systems Department of JCB Co., Ltd., commented on the network construction in China as follows: "To establish the network within a limited time schedule, it is important to communicate with local carriers and local staff in China that have different business practices. In that sense, KDDI has locally-incorporated subsidiaries and achieved many successes in China with its capabilities to cope with troubles. Such capabilities were demonstrated and proven in our previous project of the construction of IP-VPN in China. As a trusting relationship between us has been already established, we could advance this project without any worries. In fact, we were able to leave everything in the course of procedures concerning the launch of network between Japan and China up to KDDI, as we could share information concerning progress and problems with KDDI in Japan through weekly meetings. KDDI's sales reps and system engineers in Japan were also present at the communication test when the network was launched. Thanks to the well-prepared system, network construction was completed smoothly."

The redundant configuration has been adopted for access lines in both China and Japan, while the operational management system has been unified to KDDI, which enhances reliability and reduces operational load.

For the transfer of business, the redundant network is indispensable in the event of failure or other accidents. Furthermore, the system causing less operational burden is required in the daily operational management of the network.

In this project adopting the "KDDI Global Powered Ethernet" service, the redundant configuration has been adopted for access lines in both China and Japan (maintaining 20M and 40M bandwidth, respectively), taking advantage of carrier diversity. Even if trouble occurs with one of the access lines, normal business activities can be carried out through another access line thanks to such configuration. Additionally, as the network operational management system has been unified to KDDI, prompt information sharing and operation become possible, while the increase of operational management burden caused by the redundant carrier can be prevented. This has enabled the reliable and cost-effective operational management system.

As the thin client system was successfully introduced in Dalian, China, further enhancement of the security and stability in our business has become possible.
We would like to actively promote the adoption of this system for future offshoring of our business.
