What is KDDI R&D Laboratories?

KDDI R&D Laboratories performs investigations, research, and development and provides consulting and other services on new information and communication technologies based on the research and development in the KDDI Group. Research and development is being conducted on world-leading telecommunication technologies in a wide range of fields including next-generation networking and super high-speed wireless transmission technology, security, applications, and FMBC, which will bring a convergence of fixed communications, mobile communications, and broadcasting.

KDDI R&D Laboratories continues to take on the challenges in new technology for realizing a communication society where all regions of the globe are linked by the best possible means of communication.

History

April 1953 When Kokusai Denshin Denwa (KDD) Co., Ltd. was founded, KDD Research Labs was also established as a research department by separating the research division from the Telecommunications Research labs of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) Public Corporation.
April 1998 KDD R&D Laboratories was established as an independent subsidiary of KDD.
April 2001 KDD R&D Laboratories and Kyocera's DDI Institute of Future Telecommunications Co., Ltd. were merged to form KDDI R&D Laboratories.
April 2003 KDDI R&D Laboratories YRP Research Center was established at the YRP3 Building in Yokosuka city, Kanagawa.
April 2007 KDDI R&D Laboratories Technology Development Center was established at the Iidabashi Garden Air Tower Building.
