KDDI Open Innovation Fund V Invests in OptQC, Aiming for the Practical Application of Optical Quantum Computers

August 25, 2026

KDDI CORPORATION

KDDI invested in OptQC Corp. (Headquarters: Toshima-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Kan Takase; hereinafter "OptQC"), a company that promotes the practical application of optical quantum computers, through KDDI Open Innovation Fund V (operated by Global Brain Corporation; hereinafter "KOIF V"), which aims to incubate new business co-creations with promising startups.

In recent years, with the rapid proliferation of AI driving an upsurge in computing demand globally, expectations are growing for quantum computers that can swiftly process difficult problems that cannot be solved by conventional computers. Among such computers, optical quantum computers feature excellent scalability and energy efficiency, as well as a combined strength in high-speed processing and optical communications. As next-generation computing infrastructure, they are garnering much attention worldwide.
Under these circumstances, OptQC has been working toward the practical application of optical quantum computers, and in July 2026, started the operation of MoQuren, their first optical quantum computer.

In July 2025, KDDI was selected for NEDO's "Post-5G Infrastructure Strengthening Program: Middleware Development for Industrialization of Quantum Computers." In line with this project, KDDI is promoting research and development of an "AI-quantum common platform" that optimally combines and utilizes GPUs and quantum computers (Jump to the applicable sectionNote 1).
Through this investment, KDDI will utilize the assets of the KDDI Group, including telecommunications and AI computing platforms, to support the social implementation of optical quantum computers and contribute to the acceleration of the industrial use of quantum computers as well as the realization of sustainable industrial infrastructure.

As a "company that inspires passionate challenges," KDDI will continue to promote business co-creation through investment in promising startup companies, and create new business models together with customers and partners.
